Trend Forecast with LB Styling

Effortlessly stylish, unpretentious and whimsical, LB Styling and its founder, Laice Bollen are the antithesis of ‘cookie-cutter’. If you aren’t familiar with LB Styling, we recommend you get yourself acquainted with her work. Stat.

LB has a knack for identifying emerging trends (often before they emerge) and bringing them to life in a way that feels exciting, innovative and refreshingly different. From sleek minimalism to high-octane maximalism, LB Styling translates vision boards to experiences.

With two LB x Mona Farm weddings coming up this year, we thought this was the perfect time to pin Laice down and talk to her about what she’s predicting for 2023.

Here’s six emerging trends, with our recommended creative, LB.

THE ULTIMATE FONT

This trend to me relates to people reverting back to graphic design and typeface. Calligraphy has had a lot of time in the sun over the last few years and I think clients will start to gravitate towards bolder designs. This isn’t to say that calligraphy will become extinct - I predict it will simply be reimagined with typeface and new designs. I think old-school Parisian menus and the archives of artists will provide a lot of the inspiration for this trend.

On that note — Let’s rethink wedding stationery all together. There are much more creative ways ways to invest visually than the classic A-Frame welcome sign.

IS THERE A SHOW WITH THAT?

Food is often the lynch-pin when it comes to our couples special day. I see the ‘live cooking’ trend continuing to gain momentum and evolve. Think Prosciutto being shaved right in front of you and then wrapped around melon, a pasta wheel coming out (oldie but goodie), grilled octopus on the barbeque etc.etc.etc.

Not only is an innovative food moment a treat for your guests, its also a massive opportunity for me to inject some of your personal style into your day. We definitely encourage our clients to invest in this!

IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE FLOWERS

Our background is in store design and visual merchandising so we have always leant into ‘out of the box’ ideas as opposed to going ‘the safe route’. I think over the next year flowers will make way for fabrics, runways and interesting shapes.

We love the idea of mixing flowers with other materials resulting in a bespoke display that really reflects the couples unique sense of style.

One of the first wedding briefs we received asked for ‘no flowers whatsoever’ and we LOVED this challenge. Instead we focused on light, shape and colour.

Finally, if you haven’t seen the candle trend growing and growing…you have missed something.

EN MASSE EN MASSE EN MASSE

It seems our love for single stem or minimal moments is still there yetttt it has been superseded by En Masse moments - fun! The ‘en masse’ trend involves one type of product or produce displayed in abundance

We love this trend because of how impactful it is. It really packs a punch!

SURPRISE AND DELIGHT

I love that the surprise factor is making a comeback with our couples. Now, we’re not speaking about ‘flash mobs’ think more along the lines of surprise entertainment (e.g. synchronised swimmers) or approaching something differently - speeches during canapés.

the recovery party

The Recovery Party trend was big in 2022 and it has no intention of slowing down this year.

Recoveries have a `weight off the shoulders` feeling - margaritas on tap, oven fired pizzas and personalised recovery attire - what a vibe.

We see this trend continuing and becoming just as styled and personal as the wedding day itself.
