The Pick of the Seasons: Choosing Your Perfect Wedding Date
Shifting Seasons
At Mona Farm, choosing when to get married is about more than the weather or how the gardens look. Each season brings its own light, landscape, pace and atmosphere, creating a slightly different feeling for your celebration.
Whether you picture a garden ceremony surrounded by spring colour, long summer evenings by the lake, an autumn dinner beneath changing leaves or a winter celebration filled with candlelight and warmth, there is something beautiful about every season at Mona Farm.
Spring
September – November
Typical daytime temperatures: 17–22°C
Rainfall: approximately 6–7 days per month
Spring is when Mona Farm begins to wake.
The gardens start to blossom, lambs and calves arrive in the paddocks, the elm forest is carpeted with bluebells and the wildflower meadow begins to bloom. There is a freshness to everything, with longer days, softer light and a landscape that seems to be beginning again.
What we love
Spring is a season that does much of the decorating for you. Colour appears around every corner, creating a romantic and abundant setting.
For couples drawn to gardens, flowers and a feeling of new beginnings, spring offers a celebration that feels fresh, joyful and full of possibility.
And because spring unfolds gradually, a September wedding can feel quite different from one in November, making the season itself part of the story.
Summer
December – February
Typical daytime temperatures: 25–27°C
Rainfall: approximately 6–7 days per month
Summer at Mona Farm is about making the most of the outdoors.
The gardens are full, the days are long and there is more time for the celebration to unfold. Ceremonies can linger, drinks can stretch into golden hour and dinner can move naturally between spaces as the evening continues.
It’s a season that invites you to slow down, stay awhile and make the most of having your loved ones together.
What we love
Alfresco receptions and lakeside celebrations are particularly beautiful in summer.
Pear Tree Lane creates a wonderful setting for a long-table dinner, with the landscape and grazing Highland cattle becoming part of the scene. The following day, a lakeside recovery lunch is the perfect way to continue the celebration.
Guests can enjoy lawn games, swim in the lake, visit the sauna or wander down to the tennis court. Lunch can be as relaxed and generous as you like, from our paddock-to-pizza experience to a traditional spit roast. Everything is designed around sharing, grazing and enjoying time together.
Perhaps that’s what makes summer so memorable. Not one particular moment, but the feeling of having an entire weekend to celebrate.
Autumn
March – May
Typical daytime temperatures: 16–23°C
Rainfall: approximately 5–7 days per month
Autumn gives Mona Farm a completely different character.
The landscape begins to shift, colours deepen and the estate takes on a richer, more grounded feeling. Rather than the fresh abundance of spring or the expansiveness of summer, autumn has a beautiful sense of settling into itself.
What we love
Autumn lends itself beautifully to a layered wedding day.
An outdoor ceremony in the afternoon can lead into cocktails as the light changes, before moving into a warm reception that feels more like an intimate dinner party than a formal wedding.
Think long tables, candlelight, shared feasts, rich seasonal produce and well-chosen wines. It’s a time of year that suits couples who love gathering around a table and taking their time over dinner.
Autumn light also invites a slightly different approach to the wedding day. Some couples choose a first look and take portraits earlier, allowing more of the afternoon light to be enjoyed together before the celebration moves into the evening.
There is something wonderfully understated about an autumn wedding. It can be confident, considered and distinctly yours.
Winter
June – August
Typical daytime temperatures: 12–14°C
Rainfall: approximately 5–6 days per month
Winter at Mona Farm has a beauty all of its own.
Crisp mornings, rising fog, dramatic skies and a pared-back landscape create an atmosphere that feels intimate, atmospheric and quietly luxurious. The gardens may be dormant, but the estate’s architecture, landscape and interiors come into their own.
Winter isn't about trying to recreate another season. It’s about embracing the character of the season you’re in.
What we love
Winter invites a different kind of celebration. Warm, indulgent and a little unexpected.
Forget the traditional wedding cake. Our in-house tiramisu “wedding cake”, served as a tower and paired with espresso martinis, is the kind of detail that sets the tone for the evening.
We also love the styling possibilities that winter brings. Think candlelight, rich textures and considered details. Less traditional “winter wonderland”, more quiet luxury meets country estate.
And then there is the fashion. Black tie, long dresses, velvet, silk, tailored coats and statement outerwear all feel wonderfully at home in a winter setting.
Winter creates an atmosphere rather than competing with the celebration. It gives you permission to do something a little different and create a wedding that feels entirely your own.
Which season feels like you?
Four seasons, four different ways to experience Mona Farm.
From the fresh colour of spring and long summer days, to the rich tones of autumn and the quiet warmth of winter, each season brings its own character to the estate.
There’s no perfect time to get married at Mona Farm, just the season that feels most like you.
